What rights do you have as an airline passenger? 

EC Regulation 261/2004, so-called the 'Denied Boarding Compensation' regulation or DBC, protects the rights of airline passengers. It has been active in the European Union since February 2005.

This regulation established the common rules on compensation and assistance for passengers that are faced with denied boarding, cancellation, long delays and re-routing of flights.
EC Regulation 261/2004 applies to:

- All flights departing from the European Union, and
- Flights arriving in the European Union provided the airline is a Community carrier.

Airlines often offer vouchers instead of financial compensation. Think twice before accepting vouchers! They usually have limited validity and are difficult to exchange for other benefits. For example, vouchers cannot be used when booking through internet. Cash is always recommended instead of vouchers. Therefore always ask for your financial compensation to be paid in cash or by bank transfer.
